Dear Readers,here by stealing your valuable time, I am not joking.It's the truth, the truth that is happening for years,or decades in this World. There will be no one who had'nt heard of Saddam Hussain.Most of the people would be having the opinion that saddam is the successor of Hitler.Does anyone know the hidden agendas behind these dirty games?

.Lets call back for history.Look at the scenario just before the Iran-Iraq war.under the presidentship of saddam, Iraq was developing and growing to the forefront of the world.Iraq was also having a good relation with Iran before the war and had forgetten the hostility.The whole Arab World was coming to unite and work for the common good.At this time , most of the Arab-countries had got rich from oil. If they unite ,really they would become superior in the world.But american leaded western world was very afraid of the that situation and the leaders of these nations lost their peace and the picture of ArabNations controlling the world hunted them even in dreams.

Then the 'Dark Brain' of USA started working.They came with the divide and conquer idea, which they have been adopting in Iraq for years secretly.Externally standing in the side of Saddam ,they were helping the Khurds who fought against the Saddam Government.Their aim was to create problems among the muslims and thereby to destroy the Arab World.Unknowingly,saddam believed USA.Within the country ,always there were fights and revolts among the people , just as the USA wished.

Then the Iran-Iraq war started. It was actually the victory of American Game plan.After the war , as America wished both Iran&Iraq collapsed economically and problems started among the ArabNations. The next was Kuwait attack by Iraq.The america was playing a dirty game to ignite the war and it became fruitful.It led to the foundation for the fall of whole Arab Unity and its economy collapsed. Actually America was winning the GAME.

.And after a decade , when Iraq again raised to be a super-power, America came with the next game.They argued that Iraq is having wide destructive bio-weapons and started the war on Iraq, neglecting the words of UNO. But there was no UNO to attack USA as they did on Iraq in 1991. "Even the UNO will not fly above USA"!!. This is a universal truth.They made iraq into a "dead-body factory". Millions of people including children were mercillesly killed.With the words that we are freeing iraq, they killed the millions . The hunter Bush was thirst to the Arab-blood.And atlast they caught saddam and hanged him for the massacre of 148 peoples.But saddam wasnt trialed for the khurdish massacre in which he killed 1lakh civillians.why? because everyone know that america was there behind it. Rebirth of Jesus was on the third day after execution.But for a new Saddam to wake-up, it took only few hours or might be a few minutes.!! As soon the Execution was completed and the rope removed from his neck, the other end of the rope had started wounding on the necks of the Hitlers of 21st century. The reaction of the masses had became a seviour headache to the executers.As soon as the execution was completed, the world welcomed the news with wide protests,somewhere uncontrolled emotions ,and inplaces where it lead to a serious of blasts.

.Who was saddam to get the mercy and feelings of the world to him.?As someone says , A Ruler who suppressed everyone.?or a dangerous ruler...?may be or might have been in occassions. Then why the world reacted like this to the execution. Its nothing other than the screaming of those who have a little humanity remaining in them , a scream for the cause of humanity.

Whatever Saddam may or maynot be , basically he is a human, a creature having pain, feelings and emotions and all and morever,a person who served a nation for more than 25 years. Even in the case of war prisoners , there are international laws to treat them legally and ensure justice to them.And what happened in the case of saddam .All the rules and regulations were broken into fragments, and in the prison treated like a wide animal.

Even he was not alloed to sleep at the previous day of execution.Who other than a 'Skilled Barbarian" will order to do such a worst do's to a prisoner awaiting execution on the nextday.The last night of a person might be treated with a little mercy by any court or law setup by Humans. But here, the prisoner was abused a lot , physically and emotionally both,on his last night, under the custody of the so-called "world police" residing at the AC Rooms of the White House, after having a delicious dinner with human flesh and a hot cup of human blood.

.None of the people with senses will forget the moments Saddam walked in to get hanged ,or in words to accept martyrship. While even the executers masked their faces, the unmasked Saddam courageously walked into death, uncovering his expression , which never showed a bit of fear,but was fully floodded with acceptence of death, and with a little hesitation as it was committed by Imperialists. This image of the saddam is going to be the energy for the anti-imperialists for ever.And that is what made the executers to dance,moke at him seconds before getting executed and only when he is completely chained.

Saddam never bowed his head in front of those tried a lot for that.And as an uncovered face going to death without any fear,but flooded courage will defintely hunt the Western-Imperialists in their dreams until death.

Former U.S. diplomats, British scholars and former U.S. intelligence officials have confirmed that Saddam was appeased by different US governments. Saddam Hussein was seen in the past by the U.S. as a bulwark of anti-communism in the 60's, and as a counterweight to Iran in the 80's. The Hussein-U.S. alliance came to an end in 1990 when Hussein invaded Kuwait.

1.Coup against Qassim

Hussein's first contacts with U.S. officials date back to 1959, when he was part of a CIA-authorized six-man squad tasked with assassinating then Iraqi Prime Minister AbdulKarim Khasim.Iraq was then regarded as a key buffer and strategic asset in the coldwar with the USSR. In the mid-1950s, Iraq was quick to join the anti-Soviet BaghdadPact which was to defend the region and whose members included Turkey, Britain, Iran and Pakistan. Qassim's sudden decision to withdraw from the pact in 1959 was an act that "freaked everybody out" according to a former senior U.S. State Department official.

Hussein, while only in his early 20s, became a part of a U.S. plot to get rid of Qassim. Hussein was installed in an apartment in Baghdad on al-Rashid Street directly opposite Qassim's office in Iraq's Ministry of Defense, to observe Qassim's movements. The move was done with full knowledge of the CIA, and Hussein's CIA handler was an Iraqi dentist working for CIA .

The assassination was set for Oct. 7, 1959, but it was completely botched; the 22-year-old Hussein lost his nerve and began firing too soon, killing Qassim's driver and only wounding Qassim in the shoulder and arm, Qassim escaped death. Hussein was shot in the leg, but escaped to Tikrit with the help of CIA and Egyptian intelligence agents. Hussein then crossed into Syria and was transferred by Egyptian intelligence agents to Beirut, the CIA paid for Hussein's apartment and put him through a brief training course, the agency then helped him get to Cairo, where he made frequent visits to the American embassy. During this time the CIA placed him in an upper-class apartment observed by CIA and Egyptian operatives.

In February 1963 Qassim was killed in a Baath coup. Provided with information by the CIA, the Baath Party hunted down suspected communists. They then jailed, interrogated, and summarily gunned them down. Many suspected communists were killed outright.An exact toll is not known, but accounts indicate that among the victims were hundreds of doctors, teachers, technicians, lawyers, and other professionals. These numbers also include military and political figures. Saddam Hussein himself was said to have participated in the killings. There was an exchange of information between the Ba'ath and the CIA; for the first time, the United States was able to get models of certain Mig fighters and tanks made in the Soviet Union. That was what the Ba'ath had to offer the United States in return for their help in eliminating Qassim.

The United States also sent arms to the new regime, weapons later used against the same Kurdish insurgents the United States had backed against Qassim and then abandoned. Soon, Western corporations like Mobil, Bechtel and BritishPetroleum were doing business with Baghdad -- for American firms, their first major involvement in Iraq.

But it wasn't long before there was infighting among Iraq's new rulers. In 1968, the CIA encouraged a palace revolt among Baath party elements led by long-time Hussein mentor Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr. Hussein's rise to leadership took a significant step in November 1969 when he assumed a number of senior posts in the Ba'ath Party and Iraqi government. The British embassy in Baghdad described Hussein as "the recognized heir-apparent" and "young," with an "engaging smile," "a formidable, single-minded and hard-headed member of the Ba'athist hierarchy, but one with whom, if only one could see more of him, it would be possible to do business". In 1979, Hussein formally assumed the presidency when al-Bakr turned over the reins of power to his ambitious protégé.
Said Aburish, journalist and writer, believes that Hussein and the CIA had a common enemy -- Qassim. He believes that their alliance was for the duration of getting rid of Qassim, and it was not an alliance of permanent nature.

2. Iraq-Iran war

According to Said Aburish, Hussein made a visit to Amman in the year 1979, before the Iran–Iraq War, where he met three senior CIA agents. He discussed with them his plans to invade Iran.
In 1980, Iraq started the war with a blitzkrieg attack. The tide had turned by 1982 in favor of much larger Iran, and the Reagan administration was afraid Iraq might lose. Reagan chose Donald Rumsfeld as his emissary to Hussein, whom he visited in December 1983 and March 1984.

After the visit, the Reagan administration offered Hussein financial credits that eventually made Iraq the third-largest recipient of US assistance. The CIA and DIA relation with Hussein intensified. The CIA regularly sent a team to Hussein to deliver battlefield intelligence obtained from Saudi AWACS surveillance aircraft, Iraq used this information to target Iranian troops with chemical weapons.
Under President George H.W. Bush, the U.S. doubled its financial credits for Iraq. Dick Cheney, who was secretary of defense and a statutory member of the National Security Council that reviewed Iraq policy, supported the administration's appeasement policy.

He was having a powerful gang of energetic youth in the college . He moved forward with politics in one hand and his studies on the other hand. His strong personality made him a 'respected' personality of the college.While studying in college , saddam also made an attempt to enter BAGDAD MILITARY ACADEMY in which he was failed due to the partiality of officers because of their hatred towards khairallh,his uncle.

As everyone , and even America expected, it was not an easy task to judge saddam.Though he was arrested and completely disarmed, still the Authority was afraid a lot of the 'sharp and accurate' sentences coming out of that tongues .70 year old Saddam was bought to the court with chains on his legs...!!! See how joking it is...! An alliance of nuclear powers of the world , getting shiver infront of an disarmed and physically unfit person , at their own ground. This is more than enough to show what saddam was and what USA is.

. RahooJudi, the appointed judge for Saddam trial worked much hard at the court and should be given a good salary!!! It would be better to say that it was the trial of the Judge and court by Saddam .It took not more than a second for saddam to answer any questions raised at him.But even at the end of the trial ,the judge was unable to answer the sharp shooted questions at him by the former president. Sorry, it is not his fault, no one can answer those questions, as it is not there.Even the political-critcizers of imperialist world evaluates the performance of saddam at court a far better than the young judge's. See what a famous foreign advocate comments on the trial;" The young judge who hardly know the laws without books was unfit to compete with one who ruled the nation with those laws for 25 years. " This prediction becomes more clear from the courtroom scenes.

'who are you?'; this was the first question raised by the court , for which it sweted a lot. The reply echoed in the court room.' I am Saddam hussain,The president of iraq.And who are you? Who appointed you here.? By what laws this court is Set-up.? You are here means that you are the slave of those who invaded your nation...isn't it...?". The poor young judge tried hard to find answer to Saddam's questions. Atlast saddam himself left him free by saying, "ok..now i am leaving you..".

The trial of saddam continued for an year.The court went through 39 sittings.The trial started in Oct.2005 and ended by Nov.2006 .The trial period witnessed for a number of dramatic incidents.thereby marking it as an historical trial. Once a statement made by Saddam at the court got the wide attention of the world through media."If you are an Iraqi ,you must know me...I will stay fixed at what i believe right. As i have to consider the people who elected me, i will not consider those who invaded them....so i will not answer any of the questions to me from the court established by them.....Hereby as the President of this Nation, I am ordering them to get lost from my Nation....!"

Once saddam asked the court to end this drama by killing him. At a time, he also revealed at the court about his worst experiences at prison from American soldiers.

.The court finished the trial in December , sentecing saddam to death.The court asked Saddam to Stand up to respect its order.But he darely refused it.The soldiers came to him and pulled him from the seat.Saddam rose in defiance, raising his index finger high in the air and crying out the words: “Long live the people. Down with the traitors. Allahu Akbar (God is great). Long live the people, down with the traitors, down with the conquerors. God is great. Long live the Iraqi people. God is great, God is great.” Saddam raised his finger and spelled his own verdict.

Is it liberation?

If it is liberation why is curfew imposed in the state in the first place? Why is there blackout at some places in Iraq? Why has the violence erupted within moments of the verdict? who will question the failed mission of America, the invasion of Iraq for Weapons of Mass Destruction that were never there, the occupation of the secular state, the death of 600,000 Iraqi civilians, the demolition of hospitals and schools, a defunct democracy that can give nothing but a civil war? Who will question the death of innocent Vietnamese killed during the American invasion? For who will question the brutalities inflicted on Palestine and Lebanon? This is not liberation, but the death of democracy.

Are Saddam Hussein and his Baath Party being eliminated because they refuse to be at the beck and call of America? How can anyone holding such an apex position be sentenced to death for his misadministration and alleged adventures of horror? How many American presidents will go to the gallows if they are tried for similar crimes done during their invasions? Isn’t it an act that justifies neo-imperialism more than it does justice? Whatever be the truth Iraq has been divided and civilian war ignited. Rest is all but not the peace.

*THE STORY BEHIND SADDAM'S ARREST

U.S. accounts have portrayed Saddam's capture as a triumph of their high-tech innovation and old-fashioned ingenuity, but reports in the Middle East and off-the-record interviews reveal a version of events decidedly different from those already known.

Since the announcement of Saddam Hussein's capture by the United States Dec. 14, conflicting accounts of events have been heralded as truth, first by the United States, then by the Kurds. But as often, the truth seems to lie somewhere in between, and contains some unheralded facts.

. .. Foremost among those unsung facts is the capture by the U.S. 4th Army of a member of the al Muslit family – trusted relatives and lieutenants of Saddam – by US forces in July. This spawned a fateful chain of events leading to the former dictator's reported betrayal and drugging in a plan reportedly inspired by the United States and pursued by his betrayer.
But while Kurds from the Iraq-based Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) were said to be acting as go-betweens with US authorities, they pursued a triumph of their own and essentially snatched control of Saddam from the hands of his captors. This they did with suspected Iranian related support.

The critical arrest in July was that of Adnan Abdullah Abid al Muslit, widely known to be one of Saddam Hussein's closest bodyguards and collaborators.
Just a week prior to the July arrest, the respected German daily Suddeutsche Zeitung (SD) had reported that U.S. forces believed Saddam was traveling with a group of three men. The surname al Muslit first surfaced then.
SD mentioned Khalil Ibrahim Omar al Muslit as the name of Saddam's driver. It said his brothers were the other two bodyguards with Saddam. And so the capture of Adnan Abdullah Abid al Muslit became an apparent key to future events.

Those events were first reported Dec. 18. The Jordanian newspaper Al-Arab Al-Yawm said that Mohammed Ibrahim Omar al Muslit – one of Saddam's bodyguards – had drugged the former dictator and given information to US forces leading to Saddam's capture.
The significance of the report went virtually unnoticed. But the fact of "pressure" on captives and their families has been widely reported.
The Al-Arab article said Mohammed Ibrahim Omar al Muslit contacted the US forces through a relative. The drugging plan was described as a US inspired outgrowth of this. Kurdish sources have been reported as acknowledging that Saddam's own people were key to their having him.
Several recent reports have suggested that the Kurds caught Saddam, but questions remained over just how they managed to "get him."
A Kurdish presence had been reported in the Tikrit area where Saddam was arrested. A member of the Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) was quoted in The Guardian newspaper of Britain as confirming that presence.
This Kurdish presence materialized about two to three weeks before Saddam's capture, about the time he was reportedly drugged by al Muslit. Muslit seems to have captured Saddam some time after mid-November, intelligence sources indicate.
Kurdish sources named the leader of this Kurdish group of about 50 as Kosrat Rassul, head of the PUK intelligence unit that was instrumental in the operation. Rassul is also deputy to Jalal Talabani, member of the IGC, and PUK head.

News of Saddam's arrest was first released by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA). Several accounts agree that the information was given to them by Talabani.
Separately, an independent footnote to the Iranian media coverage was provided in the reported remarks of an Iraqi resistance leader, illustrating another thread running through the story.
Asked to comment on Saddam's capture, the resistance leader Jabbar al Kubaysi was quoted as saying: "Without the help of Iranian intelligence the arrest would not have been possible." Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi denied the Islamic Republic's involvement. But for many, questions remain.
Rassul is reported to have developed contacts with some of the key leaders in Tikrit area, placing himself in a position to negotiate with them. A drugged Saddam was the object.
Notably, it was Rassul who had arrested former Iraqi vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadan. The PUK was also reported to have been instrumental in locating Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay.
The Sunday Express published in London Dec. 21 reported that Kurdish forces had held Saddam for an indefinite period.

Quoting an unnamed senior British intelligence officer, the Sunday Express report says Saddam – on whose head the United States had placed a 25 million dollar bounty – was then held captive by the PUK, which bargained with the United States before arranging to hand over the drugged dictator. The Express article said that Saddam was not captured "as a result of any American or British intelligence."

But earlier, almost simultaneous with US news of Saddam's taking Dec. 14, a report by a group said to have close links to Israeli intelligence surfaced. This group, DEBKAfile, has a considerable reputation for occasionally revealing accurate facts. But DEBKA's information has also sometimes proven inaccurate, giving rise to conjecture that their reporting occasionally mixes in "facts" the Israeli intelligence community wishes to publicize.

Within a few hours of the announcement of the capture, DEBKA put out a report that Saddam had been held for two weeks or more. The scenario it painted went on to reconcile several of the capture accounts, particularly the connection between Kurds and the captors.
DEBKA said Saddam's own people initiated action against him some time after mid-November. It said Kurds from the PUK were acting as negotiators with them on behalf of the United States, with the reward being an issue for Saddam's captors. Credit for the Kurds followed.
At the same time another group, conceivably an Iranian-affiliated group, could have sought intelligence on Saddam's location and provided support, according to diplomatic and intelligence sources. It is also believed that this option provided a way to "short-cut" the negotiating process, allowing Saddam to be taken directly.

Iranian interest in bringing Saddam to justice is widely acknowledged, and Talabani's PUK was known to possess good links with Iran and its intelligence apparatus.

In a January 2003 CBS poll 64% of U.S. nationals had approved of military action against Iraq, however 63% wanted President Bush to find a diplomatic solution rather than going to war, and 62% believed the threat of terrorism would increase in the event of war. The invasion of Iraq was strongly opposed by some traditional U.S. allies, including France, Germany and Canada. Their leaders argued correctly that there was no evidence of WMD and that invading Iraq was not justified in the context of UNMOVIC's February 12, 2003 report. On February 15, 2003, a month before the invasion, there were many worldwide protests against the Iraq war, including a rally of 3 million people in Rome, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest ever anti-war rally. According to the French academic Dominique Reynié, between January 3 and April 12, 2003, 36 million people across the globe took part in almost 3,000 protests against the Iraq war.

JULY 14, 1958 MIDNIGHT: A group of armed-revolutinories led by Gen.Abdul karim al-khasim ,rushed into the palace of Faisal-II ,the then ruler of Iraq. Faisal along with the royal family tried to escape through the backdoors of palace.But the revolutinaries fired at the royal family and all the memebers were killed.And the next morning iraq broke into the news that they are having a new republican government lead by Khasim. The government was having external support from Baath party.

But as the time passed,the relation b/w Khasim and Baathists ended in quarrel. The decisions of Khasim in many issues were not acceptable to the Baathists.Also Khasim never gave an ear to the demands of the Baathists. Baathists argued that Iraq should join the Arab-countries organisation led by Egypt. But khasim refused it. Baath realised that khasim will become an obstacle before them. Baath party decided to kill Khasim.They formed a team to execute the operation.Saddam was also included in the team.The plan was to fire at khasim.Saddam was assigned the duty of defending the securities of khasim if there was a firing series.But it is more interesting that the masterplan behind these operations was of CIA's ,the intelligence agency of USA.

SaddamHussein married his first wife and cousin Sajida Talfah in 1963 in an arranged marriage. Sajida is the daughter of Khairallah Talfah, Hussein's uncle and mentor. Their marriage was arranged for Hussein at age five when Sajida was seven; however, the two never met until their wedding. They were married in Egypt during his exile. The couple have had 5 Children.

Uday Hussein (June 28, 1964 - July 22, 2003), was Hussein's estranged son who ran the Iraqi Football Association, Fedayeen Saddam, and several media corporations in Iraq including Iraqi TV and the newspaper Babel. Uday, while being raised to succeed his father, eventually fell out of favour with his father due to his erratic behavior: being responsible for many car crashes and rapes around Baghdad, constant feuds with other members his family, and killing his father's favorite valet and food taster Kamel Hana Gegeo at a party in Egypt honoring Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak, wife of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. He was widely known for his paranomia: his use of torture against people who disappointed him in any way, which included girlfriends who came late, friends who disagreed with him (even on minor issues) and most notoriously, whenever Iraqi athletes performed poorly. He was also well known for his excessively lavish lifestyle, owning hundreds of cars (presumably stolen), wines, paintings and palaces equipped with luxury goods and while the ordinary Iraqi starved, had clothing rainging from Dior, to Armani and foods ranging to steaks from Zimbabwe, Caviar from Iran, wine from France and fruit from Chile, most of them acquired from loopholes in the sanctions. He was briefly married to Izzat Ibrahim ad-Douri's daughter but later divorced her. The couple had no children. He was killed in a gun battle with US Forces in Mosul.

Qusay Hussein (May 17, 1966 - July 22, 2003), was Hussein's second and favorite son. Qusay was believed to have been Hussein's successor as he was less erratic than his older brother and kept a low profile. He was second in command of the military (behind his father) and ran the elite Iraqi Republican Guard and the SSO. He was believed to have ordered the army to kill thousands of rebelling Marsh Arabs and frequently ordered airstrikes on Kurdish and Shi'ite settlements. He was also believed to have assisted Ali Hassan al-Majid in the 1988 Halabja and Dujail chemical attacks. He was married once and had three children. His oldest son Mustapha Hussein was killed along with his father and uncle in Mosul.

Raghad Hussein (September 2, 1968) was Hussein's oldest daughter. After the war, Raghad fled to Amman, Jordan where she received sanctuary from the Royal Family. She is currently wanted by the Iraqi Government for allegedly financing and supporting the insurgency and the now banned Iraqi Baath Party. However, The Jordanian Royal Family refused to hand her over. She married Hussein Kamel and has 5 children from this marriage.
Rana Hussein (c. 1971), was Hussein's second daughter. She like her sister fled to Jordan and has stood up for her father's rights. She was married to Saddam Kamel and has had four children from this marriage.

Hala Hussein (c. 1972), was Hussein's third and last daughter. Very little information is known about her. Her father arranged for her to marry General Kamal Mustafa Abdallah Sultan al-Tikriti in 1998. She fled with her children and sisters to Jordan. The couple have two children.

Saddam married his second wife Samira Shahbandar, in 1993. There have been no political issues from this marriage. After the war, Samira fled to Beirut, Lebanon. She is believed to have mothered Hussein's sixth child Ali, but members of Hussein's family have contradicted this.

The end of the war with Iran served to deepen latent tensions between Iraq and its wealthy neighbor Kuwait. Saddam saw his war with Iran as having spared Kuwait from the imminent threat of Iranian domination. Since the struggle with Iran had been fought for the benefit of the other Persian Gulf Arab states as much as for Iraq, he argued, a share of Iraqi debt should be forgiven. Saddam urged the Kuwaitis to forgive the Iraqi debt accumulated in the war, some $30 billion, but the Kuwaitis refused.

Also to raise money for postwar reconstruction, Saddam pushed oil-exporting countries to raise oil prices by cutting back oil production. Kuwait refused to cut production. In addition to refusing the request, Kuwait spearheaded the opposition in OPEC to the cuts that Saddam had requested. Kuwait was pumping large amounts of oil, and thus keeping prices low, when Iraq needed to sell high-priced oil from its wells to pay off a huge debt.

On another compelling level, Saddam Hussein and many Iraqis considered the boundary line between Iraq and Kuwait, cutting Iraq off from the sea, a historical wrong imposed by British imperial officials in 1922. Saddam was not alone in this belief. For at least half a century, Iraqi nationalists were espousing emphatically the belief that Kuwait was historically an integral part of Iraq, and that Kuwait had only come into being through the maneuverings of British imperialism. This belief was one of the few articles of faith uniting the political scene in a nation rife with sharp social, ethnic, religious, and ideological divides.

The colossal extent of Kuwaiti oil reserves also intensified tensions in the region. The oil reserves of Kuwait (with a population of a mere 2 million next to Iraq's 25) were roughly equal to those of Iraq. Taken together Iraq and Kuwait sat on top of some 20 percent of the world's known oil reserves; as an article of comparison, Saudi Arabia holds 25 percent.

Furthermore Saddam argued that the Kuwaiti monarchy had slant drilled oil out of wells that Iraq considered to be within its disputed border with Kuwait. Given that at the time Iraq was not regarded as a pariah state, Saddam was able to complain about the slant drilling to the U.S. State Department. Although this had continued for years, Saddam now needed oil money to stem a looming economic crisis. Saddam still had an experienced and well-equipped army, which he used to influence regional affairs. He later ordered troops to the Iraq–Kuwait border.

For one, Washington had been taking measures to cultivate a constructive relationship with Iraq for roughly a decade. The Reagan administration gave Saddam roughly $40 billion in aid in the 1980s to fight Iran, nearly all of it on credit. The U.S. also sent billions of dollars to Saddam to keep him from forming a strong alliance with the Soviets. Saddam's Iraq became "the third-largest recipient of US assistance".

U.S. ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie met with Saddam in an emergency meeting on July 25, where the Iraqi leader stated his intention to continue talks. U.S. officials attempted to maintain a conciliatory line with Iraq, indicating that while George H. W. Bush and James Baker did not want force used, they would not take any position on the Iraq–Kuwait boundary dispute and did not want to become involved. Whatever Glapsie did or did not say in her interview with Saddam, the Iraqis assumed that the United States had invested too much in building relations with Iraq over the 1980s to sacrifice them for Kuwait. Later, Iraq and Kuwait then met for a final negotiation session, which failed. Saddam then sent his troops into Kuwait. As tensions between Washington and Saddam began to escalate, the Soviet Union, under Mikhail Gorbachev, strengthened its military relationship with the Iraqi leader, providing him military advisors, arms and aid.
On August 2, 1990, Saddam invaded and annexed Kuwait, thus sparking an international crisis. Just two years after the 1988 Iraq and Iran truce "Saddam Hussein did what his Gulf patrons had earlier paid him to prevent." Having removed the threat of Iranian fundamentalism he "overran Kuwait and confronted his Gulf neighbors in the name of Arab nationalism and Islam."

The U.S. had provided assistance to Saddam Hussein in the war with Iran, but with Iraq's seizure of the oil-rich emirate of Kuwait in August 1990 the United States led a United Nations coalition that drove Iraq's troops from Kuwait in February 1991. The ability for Saddam Hussein to pursue such military aggression was from a "military machine paid for in large part by the tens of billions of dollars Kuwait and the Gulf states had poured into Iraq and the weapons and technology provided by the Soviet Union, Germany, and France."
U.S. President George H. W. Bush responded cautiously for the first several days. On one hand, Kuwait, prior to this point, had been a virulent enemy of Israel and was the Persian Gulf monarchy that had had the most friendly relations with the Soviets. On the other hand, Washington foreign policymakers, along with Middle East experts, military critics, and firms heavily invested in the region, were extremely concerned with stability in this region. The invasion immediately triggered fears that the world's price of oil, and therefore control of the world economy, was at stake. Britain profited heavily from billions of dollars of Kuwaiti investments and bank deposits. President Bush was perhaps swayed while meeting with the tough British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who happened to be in the U.S. at the time.
Co-operation between the United States and the Soviet Union made possible the passage of resolutions in the United Nations Security Council giving Iraq a deadline to leave Kuwait and approving the use of force if Saddam did not comply with the timetable. U.S. officials feared Iraqi retaliation against oil-rich Saudi Arabia, since the 1940s a close ally of Washington, for the Saudis' opposition to the invasion of Kuwait. Accordingly, the U.S. and a group of allies, including countries as diverse as Egypt, Syria and Czechoslovakia, deployed massive amounts of troops along the Saudi border with Kuwait and Iraq in order to encircle the Iraqi army, the largest in the Middle East.

During the period of negotiations and threats following the invasion, Saddam focused renewed attention on the Palestinian problem by promising to withdraw his forces from Kuwait if Israel would relinquish the occupied territories in the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and the Gaza Strip. Saddam's proposal further split the Arab world, pitting U.S.- and Western-supported Arab states against the Palestinians. The allies ultimately rejected any linkage between the Kuwait crisis and Palestinian issues.

Saddam ignored the Security Council deadline. Backed by the Security Council, a U.S.-led coalition launched round-the-clock missile and aerial attacks on Iraq, beginning January 16, 1991. Israel, though subjected to attack by Iraqi missiles, refrained from retaliating in order not to provoke Arab states into leaving the coalition. A ground force comprised largely of U.S. and British armoured and infantry divisions ejected Saddam's army from Kuwait in February 1991 and occupied the southern portion of Iraq as far as the Euphrates.
On March 6, 1991, Bush announced: "What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea — a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law."

In the end, the over-manned and under-equipped Iraqi army proved unable to compete on the battlefield with the highly mobile coalition land forces and their overpowering air support. Some 175,000 Iraqis were taken prisoner and casualties were estimated at over 85,000. As part of the cease-fire agreement, Iraq agreed to scrap all poison gas and germ weapons and allow UN observers to inspect the sites. UN trade sanctions would remain in effect until Iraq complied with all terms. Saddam publicly claimed victory at the end of the war.

Gradually,Saddam rose to the position of general in the Iraqi armed forces, and rapidly became the strongman of the government. As the weak, elderly al-Bakr became unable to execute his duties, Saddam took on an increasingly prominent role as the face of the government both internally and externally. He soon became the architect of Iraq's foreign policy and represented the nation in all diplomatic situations. He was the de-facto leader of Iraq some years before he formally came to power in 1979. He slowly began to consolidate his power over Iraq's government and the Ba'ath party. Relationships with fellow party members were carefully cultivated, and Saddam soon accumulated a powerful circle of support within the party.

In 1979 al-Bakr started to make treaties with Syria, also under Ba'athist leadership, that would lead to unification between the two countries. Syrian President Hafez al-Assad would become deputy leader in a union, and this would drive Saddam to obscurity. Saddam acted to secure his grip on power. He forced the ailing al-Bakr to resign on July 16, 1979, and formally assumed the presidency.

Shortly afterwards, he convened an assembly of Ba'ath party leaders on July 22, 1979. During the assembly, which he ordered videotaped, Saddam claimed to have found spies and conspirators within the Ba'ath Party and read out the names of 68 members that he alleged to be such fifth columnists. These members were labelled "disloyal" and were removed from the room one by one and taken into custody. After the list was read, Saddam congratulated those still seated in the room for their past and future loyalty. The 68 people arrested at the meeting were subsequently put on trial, and 22 were sentenced to execution for treason .

Saddam saw himself as a social revolutionary and a modernizer, following the Nasser model. To the consternation of Islamic conservatives, his government gave women added freedoms and offered them high-level government and industry jobs. Domestic conflict impeded Saddam's modernizing projects. Iraqi society is divided along lines of language, religion and ethnicity; Saddam's government rested on the support of the 20% minority of largely working class, peasant, and lower middle class Sunnis, continuing a pattern that dates back at least to the British colonial authority's reliance on them as administrators.

The Shi'a majority were long a source of opposition to the government's secular policies, and the Ba'ath Party was increasingly concerned about potential Shi'a Islamist influence following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The Kurds of northern Iraq (who are Sunni Muslims but not Arabs) were also permanently hostile to the Ba'athist party's pan-Arabism. To maintain power Saddam tended either to provide them with benefits so as to co-opt them into the regime, or to take repressive measures against them. The major instruments for accomplishing this control were the paramilitary and police organizations. Beginning in 1974, Taha Yassin Ramadan, a close associate of Saddam, commanded the People's Army, which was responsible for internal security. As the Ba'ath Party's paramilitary, the People's Army acted as a counterweight against any coup attempts by the regular armed forces. In addition to the People's Army, the Department of General Intelligence (Mukhabarat) was the most notorious arm of the state security system, feared for its use of torture and assassination. It was commanded by Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, Saddam's younger half-brother. Since 1982, foreign observers believed that this department operated both at home and abroad in their mission to seek out and eliminate Saddam's perceived opponents.

Saddam justified Iraqi nationalism by claiming a unique role of Iraq in the history of the Arab world. As president, Saddam made frequent references to the Abbasid period, when Baghdad was the political, cultural, and economic capital of the Arab world. He also promoted Iraq's pre-Islamic role as Mesopotamia, the ancient cradle of civilization, alluding to such historical figures as Nebuchadnezzar II and Hammurabi. He devoted resources to archaeological explorations. In effect, Saddam sought to combine pan-Arabism and Iraqi nationalism, by promoting the vision of an Arab world united and led by Iraq.

As a sign of his consolidation of power, Saddam's personality cult pervaded Iraqi society. Thousands of portraits, posters, statues and murals were erected in his honor all over Iraq. His face could be seen on the sides of office buildings, schools, airports, and shops, as well as on Iraqi currency. Saddam's personality cult reflected his efforts to appeal to the various elements in Iraqi society. He appeared in the costumes of the Bedouin, the traditional clothes of the Iraqi peasant (which he essentially wore during his childhood), and even Kurdish clothing, but also appeared in Western suits, projecting the image of an urbane and modern leader. Sometimes he would also be portrayed as a devout Muslim, wearing full headdress and robe, praying toward Mecca.

This was the scenario to which Saddam was born into. Saddam's mother, Subha Tulfah al-Mussallat, named her newborn son Saddam, which in Arabic means "One who confronts." He never knew his father, Hussein 'Abid al-Majid, who disappeared six months before Saddam (he is usually referred to by his first name) was born. Shortly afterward, Saddam's thirteen-year-old brother died of cancer. The infant Saddam was sent to the family of his maternal uncle, Khairallah Talfah, until he was three. His mother remarried, and Saddam gained three half-brothers through this marriage. His stepfather, Ibrahim al-Hassan, treated Saddam harshly after his return.

At around ten, Saddam fled the family and returned to live in Baghdad with his uncle, Kharaillah Tulfah. Tulfah, the father of Saddam's future wife, was a devout Sunni Muslim and a veteran from the 1941 Anglo-Iraqi War between Iraqi nationalists and the United Kingdom, which remained a major colonial power in the region. He was also radically against Jews, Iranians, Shiites, and to some extent, Kuwaitis and Westerners as well which formed a basis on Saddam's political views. But due to his activities against government , Khairallah was sent to jail in 1941. so again saddam fell into trap.He again returned to his remarried mother,where he had to face a lot of abusing and disturbences from his half-brothers and their father.They disturbed saddam everytime as there was no one to stand for saddam. They compelled saddam to do all the works at home and gave no food.Also they didnt allowed him to go to school.5 years Saddam suffered this life.

In 1946,khairallah was made free.So saddam again went to his uncle . Under the guidance of his uncle, he attended a nationalistic high school in Baghdad. After secondary school, Saddam studied at an Iraqi law school for three years, prior to dropping out in 1957, at the age of twenty, to join the revolutionary pan-Arab Ba'ath Party, of which his uncle was a supporter. During this time, Saddam apparently supported himself as a secondary school teacher.

Saddam Hussein: More Secret History

Twenty years ago, on December 20, 1983, Donald Rumsfeld, currently the U.S. Secretary of Defense, met with Saddam Hussein during the first of Rumsfeld's two now-famous visits to Baghdad. At the time, the United States was courting Iraq as a buffer to the greater threat the Reagan administration perceived in the Islamic Republic of Iran. As has now been widely reported, the U.S. had already been providing the Iraqi regime with intelligence and other support in its war with Iran. Within a year of Rumsfeld's first visit, Baghdad and Washington had re-established diplomatic relations.

In light of recent developments in Iraq, most importantly the capture of the former dictator himself, the National Security Archive is posting a compilation of newly declassified documents from American and British sources as part of its new Web product, The Saddam Hussein Sourcebook. The documents below, which come from the Freedom of Information Act, the U.S. National Archives and the British Public Record Office provide further fascinating details about the secret history of U.S.-Iraqi relations from the late 1960s, when Hussein emerged as the real power in Iraq, to the 1970s, when Henry Kissinger began probing Baghdad about a warming of relations, to the 1980s, when the U.S. government and private businesses forged ahead with improved ties despite widespread proof of Iraq's repeated violations of international law through its use of chemical weapons.

The full record of the U.S.-Iraq relationship is not yet accessible to the public. But as the situation on the ground in Iraq and the Persian Gulf continues to evolve, and as American understanding of the nature of U.S. alliances and allies deepens, the need for fuller access to the historical record will only grow. As the Houston Chronicle noted in its December 17, 2003, editions, "a spirited examination of our nation's murkier alliances needs to be constantly, and most often publicly, re-examined. Attention: Riyadh, Cairo, etc."

Document 1: Biographic sketch of Saddam Hussein by British Embassy Baghdad, November 15, 1969

Saddam Hussein's rise to leadership of Iraq took a significant step in November 1969 when he assumed a number of senior posts in the Ba'ath Party and Iraqi government. Those promotions occasioned this brief sketch of Hussein by the British embassy in Baghdad, which described him as a "presentable young man" who although seen initially as a "Party extremist" might "mellow" with added responsibility.

The British ambassador to Baghdad wrote this fascinating assessment of Saddam Hussein soon after his "emergence into the limelight" as "the recognized heir-apparent" of the Iraqi president in November 1969. At first, Hussein comes across as "singularly reserved" but eventually begins to speak "with great warmth and what certainly seemed sincerity" about various subjects. He insists Iraq's relationship with the Soviet bloc "was forced upon it by the central problem of Palestine," and he reveals an apparently "earnest" hope for improved ties with Britain - "and with America too for that matter." Paragraph 7 of the ambassador's account provides a remarkable portrait of Hussein - "young," with an "engaging smile," "a formidable, single-minded and hard-headed member of the Ba'athist hierarchy, but one with whom, if only one could see more of him, it would be possible to do business."

As part of a routine review of world events, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and his State Department advisers briefly discuss a recent spate of diplomatic activity coming from Baghdad. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs Alfred L. Atherton, Jr. mentions Iraq's nascent attempts at "patching things up" with neighbors and generally "projecting the image of a country that wants to play a very dynamic and accurate [sic] role in the Arab World." Kissinger says this new activity "was to be expected anyway when they cleared [the] Kurdish thing," a reference to the March 1975 preliminary agreement between Iraq and Iran that settled the two countries' border dispute at the expense of cutting off Iranian (and U.S.) support to the Kurds -- with tragic results for the Kurds. Atherton specifically mentions the relatively youthful, 38-year-old Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, as someone who bears closer scrutiny by the United States. "Hussein is a rather remarkable person ... he is running the show; and he's a very ruthless and ... pragmatic, intelligent power."

This memorandum records the first face-to-face meeting at the foreign minister level between the two countries' governments in several years. Kissinger asked for the meeting in order to probe the prospects for normalizing relations with Baghdad as part of a larger campaign to warm up to the Arab world. He tells Hammadi "we do not think there is a basic clash of national interests between Iraq and the United States." Hammadi responds: "We of course have different views." Chief among them is Iraq's opposition to the state of Israel. Kissinger repeatedly declares that Israel's existence is not up for discussion. "But if the issue is more normal borders, we can cooperate." He paints a picture of diminishing Israeli sway on U.S. policy, partly because of "our new electoral law" which will mean "the influence of some who financed the elections before isn't so great." The two ministers discuss other regional issues and agree there are no obstacles to improving bilateral economic and cultural ties. Hammadi declares: "On the political level, we broke relations for a reason [the June 1967 Arab-Israeli war] and we think the reason stands." However, he agrees to stay in touch.

Document 5: Cable from U.S. Interests Section Baghdad to State Department, "Ismet Kittani's Reaction to US Chemical Weapons Statement and Next Steps in US-Iraq Relations," March 7, 1984

On March 5, 1984, the State Department issued a public statement criticizing Iraq for using chemical weapons in violation of the Geneva accords. This cable describes Iraq's behind-the-scenes reaction delivered by Iraqi Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ismet Kittani to William Eagleton, head of the U.S. Interests Section in Baghdad. Kittani's complaint has less to do with the substance of the statement than with Washington's "timing and ... manner" of delivering it. Kittani's sophistication in the use of diplomatic techniques to soften the impact of public criticism, and his awareness of the importance of the media are notable. The bottom line for both sides is that the incident should not stand in the way of improving bilateral relations; formal diplomatic recognition followed in November 1984.

During a visit to Washington, Iraqi Under Secretary Kittani met at some length with U.S. Under Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger. The administration's explicit goal for the meeting was to blunt the impact of the State Department's March 5 public criticism of Iraq's use of chemical weapons. As this cable puts it: "[T]he main message of the U.S. side [is that] our condemnation of Iraqi CW use was made as part of [a] strong U.S. commitment to long standing policy, and not as a pro-Iranian/anti-Iraqi gesture." To "reinforce" the point, Secretary of State George Shultz dropped in on the meeting briefly. "The U.S. will continue its efforts to help prevent an Iranian victory, and earnestly wishes to continue the progress in its relations with Iraq," Eagleburger told his counterpart. Among other steps to improve Iraq's position, Eagleburger indicated he had spoken with Export-Import Bank Chairman William Draper about the importance of financing projects in Iraq - at a time when internal bank objections threatened to scotch plans to provide loans for the Aqaba pipeline.

Document 7: State Department Cable to Donald Rumsfeld Party, "Briefing Notes for Rumsfeld Visit to Baghdad," March 24, 1984

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld made two trips to Baghdad as Ronald Reagan's special Middle East envoy. The first visit took place in December 1983 (see the National Security Archive's electronic briefing book, "Shaking Hands with Saddam Hussein"), the second in March 1984. This cable offers Rumsfeld some background information in advance of the latter visit, and includes the suggestion that he reinforce the message delivered by Secretary of State Shultz and Under Secretary Eagleburger in their March 15 meeting with Iraqi Under Secretary Kittani (previous document). The cable indicates Kittani remains "unpersuaded" by private U.S. assertions that the recent public statement against Iraq's chemical weapons use was necessitated "by our strong opposition to the use of lethal and incapacitating CW, wherever it occurs." The State Department wants to reassure Baghdad of its interest in improving bilateral ties "at a pace of Iraq's choosing." The Department tells Rumsfeld, "If Saddam or Tariq Aziz receives you . . . it will be a noteworthy gesture of the GOI's [Government of Iraq's] interest in keeping our relations on track." On March 26, Tariq Aziz received Rumsfeld during a brief, six-hour visit to Iraq. (National Security Archive freedom of information requests related to this meeting are still outstanding.) The cable also makes a passing reference to Saddam Hussein's "support and sanctuary for the Abu Nidhal [sic] terrorists" but gives no indication that Rumsfeld should raise the subject with the Iraqis or that it might stand in the way of warmer relations with Baghdad. One version of this document was previously published as Document 48 in "Shaking Hands with Saddam," but that version was entirely missing the second page with the crucial instruction to Rumsfeld that U.S. interests in improving U.S.-Iraq ties "remain undiminished" despite revelations of Iraq's use of chemical weapons.

Donald Rumsfeld's March 1984 trip to Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries followed speculation earlier in the month that he was returning to his regular job, running the pharmaceutical firm G.D. Searle & Co. As of the March 9 State Department press briefing partially reproduced in this cable, the Department either had no indication that he was even planning a trip, or was for some reason keeping it quiet. "I think he . . . has nothing in mind for the moment," spokesman John Hughes said, "but we'll see how that turns out." Perhaps because of the speculation that Rumsfeld was "backing off the Middle East and backing into Searle," his visit to the region did in fact take place before the end of the month. Two months later, on May 18, Rumsfeld finally resigned as special envoy.

A major project on which U.S. officials worked closely with Baghdad in the mid-1980s was construction of a pipeline to transfer Iraqi oil to the West via the Jordanian port of Aqaba instead of via the Persian Gulf, which was vulnerable to Iranian attack. U.S. officials took various steps, including negotiating with Israel to guarantee the security of the proposed pipeline which would either cross or come near Israeli territory. But as this cable shows, the underlying hostility between Baghdad and Tel Aviv was so acute that U.S. efforts came close to back-firing. So sensitive was the entire subject of dealing with Israel that Saddam Hussein was reported to be "offended" by the fact that Middle East Envoy Donald Rumsfeld had even raised it at an earlier meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz. Hussein reportedly had wanted to meet with a high-level official - Assistant Secretary of State for Near East and South Asian Affairs Richard Murphy - during a recent visit to Baghdad "to let him know the depth of Iraqi feeling about Israel."

One of the key intermediaries between Baghdad and Washington in the period prior to reestablishment of diplomatic ties in November 1984 was Jordan. This cable shows King Hussein's continuing efforts on behalf of Iraq in its war with Iran and on behalf of Arab solidarity - as witnessed by his invitation to Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak to join him at a recent meeting with Saddam Hussein in Baghdad. The king tells the U.S. ambassador in Amman that the Iraqis are "very pleased" with American diplomatic support "and with their overall cooperation with the U.S."

Providing further information on the recent visit to Saddam Hussein by Jordan's King Hussein and Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak (see previous document), the Jordanian and Egyptian ambassadors to Iraq offer their views on Iraqi regional policies. They believe that Baghdad has taken a more moderate course generally and has given "active support" to the Arab-Israeli peace process. Along the way, they offer other insights into Saddam Hussein's current thinking about the Iran-Iraq War and the uneven support he is receiving from the Arab world.

Document 11: Cable from U.S. Embassy Baghdad to State Department, "Minister of Industry Blasts Senate Action," September 13, 1988

This cable from U.S. Ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie reports on a haranguing by Saddam Hussein's Minister of Industry and son-in-law, Husayn Kamil, to representatives of construction giant Bechtel following the U.S. Senate's passage of the "Prevention of Genocide Act of 1988." The Senate's move, on September 8, came on the heels of a series of Iraqi chemical weapons assaults against Kurds - most notably in Halabja in March of that year - atrocities Kamil denied had taken place. Kamil "vented his spleen for one and a half hours," according to the report. The reason for his vehemence was that the Senate Act called for strict economic sanctions against Baghdad including blocking all international loans, credits and other types of assistance - actions that "caught his government completely by surprise." Kamil, the report notes, "insisted that a clear pattern of 'Zionist undermining of Iraqi-U.S. relations' is now apparent." Two days later, representatives of Bechtel, which remains a major presence in post-Saddam Iraq, met with Glaspie to describe Kamil's outburst. Glaspie made note of the fact that as "one of Saddam Hussein's closest advisors, some say his closest … we take Kamil's angry reaction … to be an accurate reflection of Saddam's own reaction." But the ambassador failed to comment on Bechtel's intention to move ahead with its $2 billion project in Iraq regardless of the provisions of the Act. "Bechtel representatives said that if economic sanctions contained in Senate Act are signed into law, Bechtel will turn to non-U.S. suppliers of technology and continue to do business in Iraq." In April 2003, Bechtel won USAID's largest grant at the time - worth up to $680 million - to help in the reconstruction of Iraq.

• Born on April 28, 1937, in Tikrit, the seat of Saladdin Province where he finished his primary school.

• Married, with five children: two boys and three girls.

• Joined the Arab Ba'th Socialist Party ( A.B.S.P.) in 1956.

• Arrested for six months over the years 1958-1959 for his political activities against the regime at the time while he was a secondary school student in Baghdad. Before completing his study at the secondary school he took part in the revolutionary operation against the dictator Abdul Karim Qassim who was Prime Minister in 1959, which resulted in the dictator 's receiving several shots, whereas Saddam Hussein received one shot from the dictator' s bodyguards in his leg.

• Sentenced to death in absentia on February 25, 1960.

• Escaped to Syria and thence to Egypt where he completed his secondary school study in 1962.

• Returned to Iraq after the 14th of Ramadhan revolution ( February 8), 1963.

• Admitted to the College of Law in Cairo in 1962-1963. Discontinued his study at the College by the end of 1963 when he had to return to Baghdad to lead the revolutionary struggle against the reactionary backward regime which had toppled the Ba'th Government.

• Elected as member of the Ba'th Party Leadership in Iraq at the end of 1963.

• The arrest campaign waged by the authorities against Party members on September 4, 1964 did not spare him , for he was arrested on October 14, 1964 with charges related to his leadership of the Party' s struggle against the reactionary backward regime.

• Passed his first year, the College of Law, while he was under arrest.

• Elected as member of the Ba'th Party's Pan-Arab National Leadership in 1965 while still under arrest.

• In September 1966, he was elected Deputy Secretary General of Ba'th Party Leadership in Iraq.

• Escaped from prison in 1967, to resume leadership of the Ba'th Party struggle, and hence he had to discontinue his study again because he was chased by the regime' s secret police.

• On July 17, 1968, mounting the first tank which besieged the headquarters of the head of the regime (The Presidential Palace) he led a group of Party members which forced their way into the Palace to overthrow the reactionary backward regime, and so played the leading and basic role in carrying out the Revolution that day, having previously prepared for it.

• On July 30, 1968, he was personally in charge of swift operation to purge the new government of July 17 Revolution of certain old regime' s figures who for tactical reasons co-operated with the Ba 'th Party revolutionaries.

• Having completed his third and fourth year of study after the July 17 Revolution 1968, he graduated from the College of Law .

• He practically acted as Vice - Chairman of the Revolution Command Council since July 30, 1968, but was constitutionally elected for this post on November 9, 1969.

• On June 1, 1972, he led the process of nationalizing Western oil companies which had had the monopoly of Iraq's oil.

• On July 1, 1973, he was dubbed the rank of Lieut. General and the Rafidain Order, First Class ( Military type ).

• On February 7, 1974, he was dubbed the Rafidain Order ( Civilian type ).

• Played the principal role in formulating and implementing the Autonomy Law for Iraqi Kurdish citizens on March 11, 1974.

• On February 1, 1976, he was awarded the M.A . Honors Degree in Military Sciences , together with the Staff Degree.

• On October 8, 1977, he was elected Assistant Secretary General of the National Pan -Arab Leadership of the Ba'th Party.

• On July 16, 1979, he was elected Secretary General of the Regional Leadership of the Ba 'th Party in Iraq, Chairman of the Revolution Command Council and President of the Republic of Iraq.

• On July 17, 1979, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.

• On October 8, 1979, he was elected Deputy Secretary General of the National Pan-Arab Leadership of the Ba'th Party.

• Led the Iraqi people an army wisely and bravely against the aggression initiated and launched against Iraq by Khomeini' s regime on September 4, 1980, which ended in Iraq 's great victory on August 8, 1988.

• On July 30, 1983, he was dubbed the Revolution Order first Class.

• In 1984, he was awarded Honorary Doctorate in Law by the University of Baghdad.

• On April 28, 1988, he was subbed the Order of the People.

• Led actively the modernization of Iraqi economy, urging the construction of various developed industries and following their administration and execution. He also supervised the modernization of Iraqi countryside, the mechanization of agriculture and the distribution of land on farmers. He affected a comprehensive revolution in energy industries as well as in public services such as transport and education. He also initiated and led the National Campaign for the Eradication of Illiteracy and the implementation of Compulsory Free Education in Iraq.

• Led his country in confrontation the aggression launched by 33 countries led by US. which waged war against Iraq, the Iraqis' confrontation of which is called by Arabs and Iraqis as the Battle of Battles (Um Al-Ma' arik) , where Iraq stood fast against the invasion, maintaining its sovereignty and political system.

• Has several works in intellectual, political, economic, military, social and educational fields, all translated into basic world languages.

2Q. What is the need for this blog?

Saddam- one of the name that marked itself in history in different way is always a topic of study and discussion under various concerns. So here i am contributing myself for their cause and also here i am outbursting the hidden and mysterious truths from Saddam's life that i came to know about; these stories are unknown to the world as the imperialists took maximum care to hide it as it may peel of their masks.

3Q. Do you have the opinion that Saddam is good person ?

Not so, but i am of the opinion that he is a real legend, and i appreciate his courage and will power that none of the world leaders have. He lead the nation standing in front. He lead his army forward himself, insted of ordering an operation resting in the AC rooms, as the other leaders do. He had many mistakes, i too agree. But who were there with him for planning this and executing behind the scenes are not priosned or trialed, but unlucky, they were the one's who trialed him and senteced to death. INJUSTICE NEVER WINS.

4Q. Can you make any change to this scenario with just this blog?

I wont claim that, but i will try change the mentality and misunderstandings of the people and what i need to spred is the information that i am having on the topic to the maximum, and more than all this is a trial to the REAL CULPRITS.
